Stella G. Immanuel was born in Cameroon in 1965. She attended medical school and graduated from the University of Calabar in Nigeria in 1990. She immigrated to the United States in 1992 and completed a residency in pediatrics at Bronx Lebanon Hospital. She then moved to Louisiana, where she obtained a medical license in 1998 and worked in Alexandria, LA. She obtained a Texas medical license in November 2019. She moved to Texas in late 2019 and opened a practice in Houston, where she remains.
This followed an incident in which Dr. Immanuel is alleged to have failed to remove an infected needle from a patient’s arm. The patient later died as a result of the infection, and in February 2020, the patient’s family filed a malpractice suit in Louisiana, but Dr. Immanuel had already moved to Texas. According to the Shreveport Times, her move prevented deputies from serving her with the notice of the lawsuit.
Immanuel is the owner of Fire Power Ministries and calls herself a “wealth minister.” Immanuel believes in “spirit husbands” and “spirit wives” (evil spirits) that cause everything from financial problems to ovarian cysts, endometriosis, and even pregnancies and miscarriages. She claims that this occurs through the transmission of “demon sperm.” She has witnessed and performed exorcisms. She believes in a widespread conspiracy of “witches” who pose a danger to Christians. She also believes that “generational witchcraft” has placed a curse upon African people. She believes that LGBTQIA+ people are plagued by demons.
In July 2020, a video of Immanuel baselessly touting hydroxychloroquine for treating COVID-19 and discounting the importance of facemasks in stopping the pandemic circulated on social media, obtaining praise from Donald Trump Jr. and a retweet from President Trump himself.
